ELX Process Accessories: Cooling Apparatus, Pressure Siphons, Thermowells and Sampling Solutions for Industrial Measurement

In industrial process measurement, sensors are often exposed to high temperature, pressure, corrosive liquids, steam, vibration and demanding installation conditions. Temperature and pressure sensors must be connected to the process safely, while the measurement point must be protected against excessive heat and direct process contact.

The ELX Series is designed for these requirements. It includes cooling apparatus, pressure siphons, thermowells, capillary coolers, condensate containers and sampling containers used to connect temperature and pressure sensors to the process and protect measurement instruments in harsh industrial environments.

What Is the ELX Series?

The ELX series is a group of process assembly equipment used for temperature and pressure measurement applications. These accessories are designed to connect sensors to process lines, protect sensors from extreme heat and prevent direct damage caused by contact with the process medium.

The product family includes models such as ELX 11, 12, 13, 21, 22, 23, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55, 61, 62, 63, 71, 72, 81 and 82.

Each model group serves a different function, allowing users to select the correct accessory according to process temperature, pressure, connection type, sampling requirement and sensor installation design.

Why Process Accessories Matter

Even a high-quality sensor may fail or give unreliable results if it is installed directly into a harsh process without proper protection. High temperature can damage electronic components, corrosive media can shorten sensor life, and direct exposure to process flow can create mechanical stress.

ELX accessories help solve these problems by creating a safer interface between the sensor and the process. They allow pressure and temperature sensors to operate more reliably and help reduce maintenance risks.

They are also useful when the process should not be stopped during sensor replacement. By isolating or protecting the sensor from direct process contact, ELX accessories support safer and more practical maintenance operations.

General Advantages

The ELX series offers several important advantages for industrial users. It can be manufactured with various material options such as 316, 316L, 316T, 321, titanium and Hastelloy according to application requirements.

The series also offers various connection options, fast delivery and manufacturer test certificates. Products can be manufactured as welded standard versions or from full material.

All products undergo hydraulic permeability testing. Penetration testing can also be performed optionally. Material certificates and manufacturer test certificates can be supplied when required.

Application Areas

The ELX series is used in chemical industry, process technology and temperature display applications. It is also suitable for steam lines, high-temperature liquid pipelines, boiler water applications, condensate sampling and general process measurement installations.

Because the series includes several accessory types, it can support many different industrial measurement points where temperature, pressure or sampling reliability is important.

Cooling Apparatus: ELX 11, 12, 13, 21, 22 and 23

The ELX cooling apparatus is used to protect sensors from high process temperatures. It provides a thermal distance between the process and the sensor, helping reduce heat transfer to the measuring instrument.

Short type models include ELX 11, ELX 12 and ELX 13. Long type models include ELX 21, ELX 22 and ELX 23.

These models are made from 316 stainless steel. The maximum working pressure is 80 bar. Short type models are suitable up to 180 °C, while long type models are suitable up to 250 °C.

The overall length is 84–87 mm for short type versions and 104–107 mm for long type versions. Process and sensor connection options include 1/2" BSP and 1/4" BSP, depending on model.

Pressure Siphons: ELX 31, 32, 33, 34 and 35

Pressure siphons are used mainly in pressure measurement applications where the medium temperature may be too high for direct sensor connection. They help protect pressure instruments by forming a cooling section between the process and the measuring device.

The ELX pressure siphon group includes ELX 31, ELX 32, ELX 33, ELX 34 and ELX 35.

ELX 31 is made from ST37 steel, with 16 bar maximum working pressure and 250 °C maximum working temperature. It has 240 mm overall length and 1/2" BSP female process and sensor connections.

ELX 32 and ELX 33 are made from 304 stainless steel, with 30 bar maximum working pressure and 250 °C maximum working temperature. ELX 32 has 1/4" BSP male process and sensor connections, while ELX 33 has 1/2" BSP male connections.

ELX 34 and ELX 35 are made from 316 stainless steel, also with 30 bar maximum working pressure and 250 °C maximum working temperature. ELX 34 has 1/4" BSP male process connection and 1/4" BSP female sensor connection. ELX 35 has 1/2" BSP male process connection and 1/2" BSP female sensor connection.

Capillary Coolers: ELX 61, 62 and 63

Capillary coolers are used when high process temperature must be reduced before reaching the sensor. They provide extended cooling length and heat dissipation for temperature-sensitive instruments.

The ELX capillary cooler group includes ELX 61, ELX 62 and ELX 63. These models are made from 304 stainless steel as standard, with 316 stainless steel available as an option.

The maximum working pressure is 30 bar. ELX 61 is suitable up to 1200 °C with 200 mm overall length. ELX 62 is suitable up to 800 °C with 150 mm overall length. ELX 63 is suitable up to 400 °C with 100 mm overall length.

Process and sensor connection options are 1/4" BSP or 1/2" BSP female.

Thermowells: ELX 51, 52, 53, 54 and 55

Thermowells are protective pockets used for temperature sensors. They allow temperature probes to be inserted into the process without exposing the sensor directly to the process medium.

This is especially useful when sensor replacement is required without stopping the process or when the sensor must be protected from pressure, flow impact or corrosive media.

The ELX thermowell group includes ELX 51 thread type, ELX 52 flat type, ELX 53 flanged type, ELX 54 sanitary type and ELX 55 dairy type.

These models are made from 304 stainless steel, with 316 stainless steel available as an option. Maximum working pressure is 16 bar standard, with 30 bar optional. Maximum working temperature is 250 °C standard, with 600 °C optional.

Total length, process connection and sensor connection can be selected according to order requirements.

Connection Options for Thermowells

ELX thermowells offer multiple connection types. Threaded versions include 1/2" BSP, 3/4" BSP and sensor connections such as 1/4" BSP, 1/2" BSP and 3/4" BSP.

Flanged versions include DN1", DN2" and DN3" PN16 options. Sanitary and dairy type options are available for hygienic or food-related process applications.

This wide connection flexibility allows ELX thermowells to be used in many different process lines and vessel designs.

Condensate Containers: ELX 71 and ELX 72

Condensate containers are used as a buffer zone between the instrument and process in highly concentrated and corrosive liquid measurement lines.

They are most commonly used in steam pipelines and high-temperature liquid pipelines above 150 °C. The condensate container cools the liquid to be measured, allowing it to reach a suitable temperature for measurement.

The ELX 71 is the big type condensate container. It is made from carbon steel A106.B, has 125 bar test pressure and 3 x BSP 1/2" connections.

The ELX 72 is the small type condensate container. It is made from 316 stainless steel, has 155 bar test pressure and 3 x 1/2" BSP connections.

Sampling Containers: ELX 81 and ELX 82

Sampling containers are used for taking samples from hot process liquids, steam boiler water and applications containing high temperature and pressure.

They provide mechanical connection options for process liquid input and output as well as cooling water input and output. Control can be provided with mounting valves at the input and output of the sampling liquid.

Typical application areas include water, steam and condensate sampling water.

Sampling Container Technical Features

The ELX sampling container has a maximum working pressure of 25 bar, with 50 bar optional. Maximum working temperature is 238 °C, with 300 °C optional.

The body material is 304 stainless steel, with 316 stainless steel optional. The segmented material is copper pipe, with 316 stainless steel optional.
